While we were all being told to Stay Home, Save Lives and Protect the NHS Christopher was on a twelve hour shift nightshift with doctors and nurses on the frontline battle against the deadly virus.

Photographers and journalist everywhere were constantly asking to see the frontline battle against COVID-19 and virtually none had succeeded.

Christopher tells us how he went about selling the idea of a photo documentary shot on black and white film and the challenges that presented when access was granted. Not least when he had to go home and produce a TV package for the news.

Canadian-born photojournalist Christopher Bobyn grew up in Montreal and received his BA in film studies from queen’s university before devoting himself to visual reporting and uprooting to Europe.

Christopher’s extensive photography documents the evolving human landscape resulting from conflict, immigration, and revolution.  His work has had him extensively report on the aftermath of conflict in the former-Yugoslavia, cover the Syrian refugees in crisis Turkey and Germany, and revolution and war in Ukraine.

He has had two exhibits of his photographic work in Berlin, one from his work during the Arab Spring in Cairo and the other on the conflict in Ukraine, which was accompanied by his first book, “From Revolution to War: A Year in Ukraine."

His work has been published by National Geographic Deutschland, The Guardian, The IrishTimes, The ABC, and Deutsche Welle.

After 8 years freelancing from Berlin, Christopher now lives and works in Edinburgh for the BBC.
